In a world made entirely of colorful constructions, thousands of bricks of every shape, color, and size lived. Some bricks were as long as bridges, others as tall as towers, still others as transparent as ice or curved like waves.
At the heart of this world, there lived a little red brick named Leo. He had four little pieces on his head and four little pieces under his feet, just like so many others, but he felt different: too simple, too small, too ordinary.
Leo lived in a citadel built on a table in a large room. New constructions sprang up around him every day: skyscrapers, castles, spaceships, robots, and windmills. Each construction required dozens, sometimes hundreds, of bricks.
But no one ever seemed to choose Leo .
“That one is too small, we don't need it,” some said.
“We are looking for more special pieces,” said others.
“We are looking for more special pieces,” said others.
Leo sat in the corner and watched his friends being carefully chosen and fitted in. Even his neighbor, an oddly shaped pink brick, had become a dragon's nose!
One evening, while everyone was sleeping, a gust of wind blew through the open window. It was so strong it shook the entire building! Some bricks broke loose, rolled off the table, and scattered across the room. Leo, too, was lifted into the air and… BAM!, he ended up under an old wardrobe, where dust reigned supreme and daylight never reached.
Leo remained alone, silent. He didn't know what to do. He couldn't move on his own, and no one seemed to notice his absence.
Time passed. He didn't know how long. The days and nights all seemed the same, until a brilliant flash illuminated the darkness. A transparent brick, bright as a star, danced closer.
“Hello,” he said in a gentle voice. “Are you lost?”
“Yes… but I don’t think anyone cares. No one’s ever needed me,” Leo replied, looking down.
“You’re wrong,” she said. “Even the smallest brick has value. We all have a place in this world. Come with me.”
With a little effort and a lot of determination, Lucilla – that was the name of the brick – helped Leo out of the darkness.
It was then that Leo saw the disaster: the city on the table was half destroyed! The main bridge, connecting two towers, had collapsed, and the builders couldn't rebuild it. They tried and tried, but each time something was missing.
“It takes the right piece… small, but strong,” they said.
Lucilla took Leo's hand. "It's your moment."
With some trepidation, Leo stepped forward. He was positioned in the center of the arch, between two rickety columns. Click. It fit perfectly.
The pieces around him fell together, one after another, as if they were waiting for him to complete them.
And so the bridge was rebuilt, more stable and more beautiful than before. Everyone rejoiced: Leo, the little red brick, had saved the entire city.
From that day on, Leo was never picked last again. But above all, he learned that you don't have to be big or flashy to be important.
